Changes that brings about a change

We like the idea of change but we usually don’t like the process.

It requires an inward shift in our mind in our hearts and in our spirits. We love the familiar, the comfortable. Change is good but not too much, change is good as long as I don’t have to give up anything. But thats not possible because change will always require letting go of the old. You can’t take on the new without letting go of the old. This is the mistake of so many, this has always been the hinderance of progress.

Matthew 9:16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. 17 Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

When we try to make a change, sort of…

A new patch on an old garment, new wine in old wineskins. It happens all the time. Lets make changes but the change is not enough to bring about a change. Things continue the same, the same problems, the same lack of progress, the same lack of results. The change was not enough. It wasn’t really a change it was just an alteration.

prepare for the change.

Be willing to lay it all down, give it all up, leave it all behind. That doesn’t mean that you will have to but you have to be willing to. I think that that was the situation presented to the rich young ruler when Jesus said “sell all you have and give it to the poor”. “What must I do?” asked the young rich ruler. You have to be willing to give it all up. I believe that his was and Abraham Isaac situation. He was being tested and where Abraham succeeded the young rich ruler failed.

Once you know that you are truly willing and able to give up anything then you begin a thorough inventory to decide what has to go in order to get where you want to be. Believe me if you really want to have a different life, a different marriage, a different relationship with your children. If you really want to reach that dream, accomplish those goals. You must be willing and able to make the changes that will bring about the change.

Going to another level, reaching a higher mountain top, seeing greater success, all of this only happens when the necessary changes are made.

Pray about the changes.

We are not that smart. We need Gods wisdom. His word says that if we lack wisdom to ask and He will give us abundantly. God wants us to make right choices, good choices. God wants us to be successful! I believe that we will avoid many mistake if we take time to present our decisions to Him and ask for His guidance and counsel. In the old testament the kings would enquire of the Lord before going out to battle. changes will bring about change whether for the good or for the bad. As we prepare for change we must also pray about the changes that we are considering. Proverbs tells us to “Lean not to our own understanding”. Self confidence is good but without Gods wisdom we could easily find ourselves confidently going in the wrong direction.

Plan for the changes. write it out, set timelines and deadlines. Prioritize and recruit and equip the key players and all who will be affected. The smoother the transition the less difficult the changes.

Finally proceed. implement, execute and enjoy knowing that the fruit of it all will be sweet in the end. Stay focused, stay strong, see it through.
